McCaffery Interests offices: Chicago, Washington, D.C. and now, Pittsburgh
We are proud to announce the opening of our third regional office location in America’s Steel City, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Recently dubbed “The New Cool” by Forbes, Pittsburgh has come a long way from its steel beginnings. Today, the city retains its industrial grit while offering competitive job opportunities, Ivy League universities, and a plethora of recreational activities on its three rivers and across its rolling hills.
Heading up the opening of the new office is Senior Project Manager, Pamela Austin. Focused on providing development, property management and leasing support in this burgeoning area, Pamela shares why Pittsburgh was chosen as our new regional office location and what she loves about the ‘Burgh.
Why has MI decided to open a regional office in Pittsburgh?
Pamela Austin: Within the last ten years, McCaffery Interests has successfully developed and leased up Cork Factory and Lot 24 in partnership with investor Chuck Hammel. Each property had waiting lists to move-in—all signs were positive for the Pittsburgh market to keep growing. And more recently, the city has received accolade after accolade for everything from convenience to cultural attractions. Several technology companies are establishing a presence within the city, such as Uber and Google, which is increasing the millennial population and job opportunities.
Where is the office located?
PA: Our new office is located at 2020 Smallman Street, in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Strip District. The Strip is an area that is undergoing major transformation right now because it has a lot of character, it offers views of and access to the Allegheny River, and it is conveniently located in between Downtown and the growing Lawrenceville neighborhoods.
The new office has direct views of the Produce Terminal, another historic Strip District building that we are collaborating with the City to redevelop. It’s also within walking distance of both the Cork Factory and Lot 24, as well as the newest addition to our multifamily management portfolio: The Yards at 3 Crossings.
In what ways will McCaffery serve the area?
PA: We are currently providing development consulting, property management and leasing services at The Yards at 3 Crossings for our partner, Oxford Development. In addition to taking advantage of development opportunities, we are looking to increase our third-party multifamily management services in this region.
We also value the relationships that we have established with local partners, including Riverlife and Neighbors in the Strip, and will continue to work closely with neighborhood organizations, the City of Pittsburgh, and the residents and businesses of the Strip District as the neighborhood continues to grow and evolve.
You have relocated to Pittsburgh yourself. What is it you love about the City?
PA: I love that Pittsburgh is nestled into the green hills and has three rivers and trails to bike along. The city is small but it has a vibrant and trendy art scene, great museums and performance venues, as well as a wonderful history and tradition of philanthropy from the days of Andrew Carnegie and Richard B. Mellon. Downtown Pittsburgh has lovely old buildings that are being adaptively reused, some by the likes of great brands such as Kimpton, to make hotels and new living options, and there is a rich and delicious culinary scene to indulge in. And when I tire of being in an urban setting, I can easily get to stunning natural areas where I can hike and camp.
